Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cub Cadet 2165 stalls - low horsepower, cub cadet 2165, size tank

Question
Cub Cadet HDS 2165
Cub Cadet 16HP v twin
Serial 314141

Engine runs strong for 30-45 minutes then begins to cycle up and down. Has
low horsepower and occasionally stalls out entirely. Applying 1/4 choke helps
slightly for a while. After a long rest (between mowings) it works fine again.
Also, will occasionally run poorly for a while, then run well, then poorly, then
well..etc.

any help? I'm assuming a carb-rebuild is in order.. but I've heard talk about
"governers".. don't even know what they are...

Answer
Hello Doug:

Have you Checked the Gas Tank Cap? Ensure it is Venting the Tank Properly. Depending on the Size Tank and The Terrain, it can Build a Vacuum in as Little as 15 Minutes  Up To 45 Minutes of Use. This Vacuum Prevents the Gas from Free Flowing to the Engine/Fuel Pump. If this Is Not the Case, then Check the Engine for Spark at the Plug. Most Times a Coil/Ignition Module will Just Stop Firing When it Gets Hot. However I Seen Several Times the Symptoms you Described to be the Coil/Ignition Module. I'm Leaning Towards the Gas Cap. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
