Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Mower, starter solenoid, jumper cable

Question
I recently purchased a used Sears 917255724 10hp Tractor. It is not starting. I turn the key and i hear a tap coming from the ignition solenoid. I have removed the cover exposing the flywheel and starter. I see no movement from the starter trying to engage the flywheel when i turn the key to start. Could this ignition solenoid need replacement or is the Starter the problem? The tap is coming from it. I can feel the tap when i hold it and turn the key
Thanks

Answer
Hello Ray:

Load Test the Battery. If the Battery is Good, then Use a Jumper Cable and Jumper from the Battery Post of the Starter Solenoid to the Large Post on the Starter. If the Starter Turns, then Jumper to the Small Post in the Base of the Starter Solenoid. If the Starter Doesn't Turn then the Starter Solenoid is Bad. I'm Thinking the Solenoid or Starter because of the CLICK. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
