Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn mower (B&S engine), briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Question
I have a Craftsman 7HP walk behind mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine with the following model numbers: YBSXS.1901VE  275078.
The mower is now beginning its 3rd year and now will not start.  The first few tries it would start and die out within 2 or 3 seconds and then it wouldn't start at all.  I replaced the gasoline and the spark plug with no difference.  I'm not especially handy and I have no manual to consult.  Any ideas on what it could be and/or what I can try next?  Thank you.

Answer
Hello John:

Briggs Doesn't Offer this Engines Breakdown/IPl for Online Viewing Yet and I Ordered My Manual a Few Days Ago. However, From your Description I Suggest you Make Sure that the Gas is Free Flowing to the Carburetor. If it is, then Check the Fuel Shut Off Solenoid in the Bottom of the Carburetor First. Remove the Solenoid and go to the Hardware or Automotive Store. Purchase a Bolt the Same Diameter and Threads as the Solenoid. It should be 1/2' to 3/4' Long. Install this Bolt In Place of the Solenoid. Try to Start the Engine. It the Engine Turns and Doesn't Start, then Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I use Gunk). Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air and Install a New Kit. You can Purchase a Illustrated Parts Manual from this Addy, http://shop.briggsandstratton.com/BShopProductListingPage.asp?rsvp=0&PARENTID=0&... and Enter the Model Numbers YBSXS and the Type Numbers 1901 and Click Search. Then Select the Buy Online. Hope this helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
