Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs Sputtering, briggs and stratton, proper manuals

Question
Got a 2001 Huskee with a 16.5 horse briggs and stratton. It cranks and runs fine for about 15 minutes. After about 15 minutes, it starts sputtering. Over a period of about 15-30 more minutes, the sputtering gets progressively worse until the engine will simply not run any more. Any ideas? Thanks.

Answer
Hello Jeremy:

Check the Gas Tank Cap and Ensure it is Venting Properly. Change the Gas Filter (if it has One). Run the Engine Until it Quits and Check for Fire at the Plug when it Quits. **BE CAREFUL PLEASE HOT PARTS** If No Fire, then the Coil/Ignition Module is Bad. If Fire, then Check the Valve Clearance. Set the Engine to TDC and Set the Intake to .002in - .004in and the Exhaust to .008in - .010in. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Mower and the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manuals and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
