Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cub Cadet Mower Problem, air filter assembly, cub cadet mower

Question
QUESTION: Hello John,

While researching your past answers, I may have found my problem.  My 2155 runs strong until about 30 minutes or so.  When it gets hot, it starts to stall and eventually cuts out.  It's usually when I'm coming up a small incline when it happens.  After cooling off, it's good again for awhile.  I replaced the air filter assembly and gas filter at the start of the season.  According to another post, you suggested it was probably the ignition module and referred the poster to partstree.com for the module.  Does this sound like the same problem?  If so, where is this ignition module?  Is it inside of the motor housing and if so, how do I get to it.

Thanks...
Jeff
ANSWER: Hello Jeff:

Make Sure the Gas Cap is Venting the Tank. If it is then Run the Engine Until it Stalls Again and check for Fire at the Plug. **REMEMBER HOT!!!PLUG IS HOT AND SO IS THE ENGINE** If there is No Spark at the Plug, then the the Coil/Ignition Module is Most Likely Bad. You Cadet has No Igniter. This is the Reason I ask for Model Numbers. The Model Makes a Big Difference. From your Description it Sounds like the Coil/Ignition Module is Bad. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Addy, http://www.partstree.net/parts.asp and Enter the OEM (Cub Cadet) and the Model Numbers in the Areas Marked on the Left of the Page and Click Go. Then Select the Ignition/Electrical File. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: John,

I found the ignition module here (#6): http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=cub_cadet&mn=2155+Tractor+S%2FN+326%2C006+%26

It doesn't say Coil.  Does that look correct?  Is this inside of the engine and if so, how do I get to it?

Thanks again...

Jeff

Answer
Hello Jeff:

On this Model Engine the Coil and Ignition Module (#6) are the Same. Remove the Blower Housing (metal engine cover). The Coil/Ignition Module (#6) is Mounted so the Magnets on the Flywheel Turn Past the Pickup Probes. The Coil is Gapped at .020in from the Flywheel. To See the Blower Housing; Select the Blower Housing and Baffles File. The Blower Housing is #8. The Coil/Ignition Module are Just Under this Housing. Hope this Helps.
