Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine will not start, briggs stratton, jumper cables

Question
I own a Murray Rider Lawn Mower 425600x8A (4yrs old).  The engine is made by Briggs/Stratton.  I did my spring maintenance on the unit and it was running fine. Now the engine will not start after a two weeks on no-usage. I check the battery, the solenoid, the afterfire solenoid plug and the red, orange voltage output to be 12.6 volts. The book says to replace the solenoid. I have a feeling its the starter. What am I missing here to get this unit running?

Answer
 Hello Carl:

Have you Checked the Safety Switches? A Quick Check for the Solenoid and Starter: Use you Jumper Cables and Attach the Red Lead to the Positive Post of the Battery. Now Firmly Touch the Large Starter Post with the Other Red Lead. If the Starter Turns the Engine Properly, then Remove the Small Lead Wire from the Solenoid Base that comes from the Ignition Switch and Firmly Touch this Small Post if the Solenoid Clicks, then the Solenoid is Bad. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
