Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): tiller ?, crankcase oil, carburetor

Question
I just bought a used craftsman 17' 6hp tiller and it was not used for a couple of years, now when I pull to start gas comes spraying out of the muffler, also the pull string sticks and could break your arm. Any advice would greatly help. Thankyou.

Answer
 Hello David:

Remove the Spark Plug. Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I use Gunk). Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air and Install New Kit. Change the Crankcase Oil or Check it for Gas Smell if you have Changed it Already. Replace the Spark Plug. From your Description it Sounds like the Float in the Carburetor has Frozen or is Sticking and is Allowing the Carburetor to Flood the Cylinder. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
