Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 17.5 hp Kohler in lawn tractor, crank case filling with fuel, scotts lawn tractor, john deere dealer

I have a Scotts lawn tractor L17.542 with Kohler engine.  Recently discovered crank case filling with gasoline after engine lost power and started smoking.
Do I need to rebuild the carbureator? It is a Walbro LMK 97A 2071 120.53117.  Thank you.

I also recommend going to your local John Deere dealer and buying a fuel shutoff valve for an STX 38 tractor.From my experience this carb is very hard to make stop leaking you may have to buy a new carb.Use the valve even after you have fixed the problem (Harley riders have been doing it for years)
