ANSWER: Did you clean the carb with compressed air and carb cleaner? Another individual with the same symptom you are describing had to clean their carburetor twice.
What is the model number of you mower? The model number format is xxx.xxxxxx and usually found under the rear seat or fenders.

QUESTION: Model #917.2736405; Walbro carb w/ solenoid.
Is the solenoid 12v?
How is the solenoid powered?
If the control ckt or the solenoid is faulty, would it still run with full choke?
I did an 'on-engine' clean with foaming top-engine cleaner since I haven't had time to pull the carb off and do it right. Engine purrs like a kitten ON choke but still sputters and dies off choke. Thx, RV
AnswerThe solenoid is working if the engnie starts. The solenoid has a plunger that stops fuel from entering the main fuel jet in the carb.
There is some blockage in the main fuel circuit that is causing the problem. You will have to remove, dis-assemble and clean the carb with compressed air from an air compressor and carburetor cleaner. Clean all the little orfices and this should get it running.
You can search the internet for carburetor rebuild or cleaning to get an idea of what you doing.
You can also visit Briggs web site and see the "illustrated parts list" for your engine.
