Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Jonh Deere S1400 string trimmer, minute particles, jonh deere

Question
Hello John,  Could you please tell me the correct gas/oil mix for this trimmer.  I also would like to know about the muffler screen.  Why does it plug with carbon build up?  Should you run the engine a short period without the screen to clean out build up in the muffler exhaust before replacing the cleaned screen?

Answer
 Hello Clyde:

A 2cycle Engine Has Minute Particles of Hot Carbon Waste from the Oil/Gas Mixture that Exhaust the Engine and Stick to the Piston Top, Exhaust Port, Muffler and Spark Arrestor Screen. With No Spark Arrestor Screen, you can See the Sparks from the Hot Carbon as it Exits the Muffler. I Use a 32:1 Fuel Mixture in All My 2cycle Equipment. I Suggest you Contact you Local JD Dealer and Ask about the Oil Mix Ratio. If the Muffler has Oil Coming Out of it or is Oily to the Touch when Cool, then Decrease the Oil Ratio to the Next Level (ie: 40:1 Reduced to 32:1 Ect). I Usually Run the Equipment for 3 Minutes Without the Muffler After De-Carbonize the Engine and then Replace the Muffler After the Engine has Cooled. I Change the Spark Arrestor Screens in my Trimmers and Saws Once a Month and Clean the Old Ones if they are Not Burnt Out. Dont Forget to Look at the Top of the Piston and Remove All the Carbon you can from it also. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
