ANSWER:   Hello Glen:

Is this an OLder Engine? If Yes, then the Point Set May need Replacing. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Better Assist you. Thanks.

john deere 255

Answer
 Hello Again Glen:

Then the Coil May be Bad. The Coil Contains the Ignition Module on this Engine. The Component Under the Flywheel is the Stator. This is the Charging Systen for you Engine. You can View a Breakdown/IPL at this Addy http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H and Enter the Mowers Model Numbers. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.
