Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 8 hp Briggs on tiller suddenly blows oil smoke and stops., engine model type, hp briggs

Question
 HI,
I was doing some tilling light soil and the was slight jolt(I can't hear very much)and oil smoke started coming out of the exhast. At first it was like when you tip the motor while you work on something. When you start it sometime puts out smoke for a few seconds.   Then it started putting more smoke and died.  I tried to start it but no luck. I haven't tried it from a cold start (just happened).
I don't know a lot about engines but I know smoke of any kind isn't good but blue or white always made me sick.
This tiller is about 6 years old and is lightly used.
I had just changed oil and replaced the needle, seat and gasket.  I then found that the float leaked. I drilled a hole poured out the gas,I soldered the hole I had made and put a light coating of epoxy to seal the enire float.  Couldn't find the original leak.
Any idea what happened? DO you think the Epoxy had anything to do with it. I had been using the tiller for about 15 minutes when this happened,

Answer
The Epoxy could have damaged the piston, cylinder and rings.  Have you removed and inspected the float to see if the Epoxy material has dissolved?

What is the engine model, type and code number so I can look up some informantion?
Let me know.
