Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler Command 17, country clipper, kohler command

Question
The engine is a CV490S series.  The previos owner said it sat for around 5 months without use.  I have found out that gas is not reaching the carburetor but if i pour a small amount into the throat it will start for a brief moment, my friend said to check for obstructions in the fuel line but i am not sure how.  Or could it be something else possibly a bad fuel pump?

-----Question-----
I have recently been given a Country clipper JAZEE with a kohler command 17 for an engine.  The previous owner wasn't the best caretaker but she used it very little.  She told me she has had some problems with the solenoid which i found out does need replacing but the starter turns over when i jump it from the battery but it will not start.   It has a full tank of gas but it is acting like it has none.  Whats the deal?

 Hello Patrick:

1- Send me All the Model Numbers Off the Mower and the Engine, Please. 2- How Long has the Mower Sit? 3- Is the Gas Free Flowing to the Carburetor? Is the Spark Plug/Plugs Firing? Will the Engine Start and Quit if you Pour a Small Amount of Gas Into the Carburetor Throat? It can be Something as Simple as a Bad Safety Switch or the Carburetor needs Cleaning. Thanks.

 John

Answer
 Hello Patrick:

Go to this Add http://www.kohlerengines.com/service/manuals/manuals_results.jsp and Select the CV490 Service Manual for Download. This will Download the Manual for Online Viewing. Trace the Gas Line Back to the Tank. If a Filter is in the Line the Change it. If No Filter, then Remove the Gas Line from the Carburetor and the Gas Tank. Use Compressed Air and Carefully Blow out the Line to the Tank. You May have to Remove the Tank and Clean it Also. Once you have Gas to the Carburetor we can Go Further if Required. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
