Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B & S 5HP horizontal shaft, briggs and stratton, displacement engine

Question
John

Thanks once again for your help with my 20HP Intek V-Twin.

Another problem, this time relating to a 5HP B&S mounted on a Masport Rota-Hoe, the Serial Number being 7846076. While this is probably irrelevant, it may possibly indicate that it is of a '78 vintage, and so the motor may be of that vintage also.

The only identifications that I can obtain from the engine, according to transfers which are attached, is that it is 5HP and 206cc. The B&S website indicates that I should find the Model, Type and Code stamped on the flywheel blower housing butI cannot find any markings there.

I have conducted various searches on the web and I have found that Models 98000, 104000, 124000, 126000, 130000-132000 and 133000 relate to a 5HP engine.

The B&S Owners Manual 277040 covers, amongst others, the 120000 model series which relates to the 206cc displacement engine.

However, as I do not have a Type or Code, I cannot get an IPL up.

Can you suggest any way I can get the type and code so that I can download an IPL?

Regards
John

Answer
 Hello John:

Go to this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Scroll to the File you Require and Download it for Online Viewing of the Breakdown/IPL. On this Site the Type and Code Numbers are Not Required. Also Look on the Blower Housing(metal Engine Cover) just above the Bolt hole above the Spark Plug. The Model Numbers will be Stamped Into the Housing there or Above the Muffler Area. You May have to Wire Brush the Paint Of Some to Locate the Numbers. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
