Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Generator wont start !0 hp. Tecumseh, coleman powermate 5000 watt generator, horizontal shaft

Question
I have a Coleman Powermate 5000 watt generator with a Tecumseh 10 hp. horizontal shaft motor Model # HM100, which is impossible to start. I did take it in to have the carb cleaned and adjusted last summer as it had not been run for over a year as it is nearly impossible to start. I have tried to start it several times since I got it back to no avail. It acts like it doesn't even attempt to fire. Could I give it a shot of starting fluid sprayed into the carb to see if that will get it to fire? I have heard that starting fluid can damage some small engines? The block is drilled for and the shroud has a provision for accepting the  electric starter. Would it be possible to just add on the electric starter or would I have to replace the fly wheel too?

Thanks

Answer
 Hello Dean:

If the Flywheel on the Engine has the Ring Gear Attached for the Electric Starter, then you can Mount the Electric Starter and be Ready to Go. However, if the Ring Gear isn't on the Flywheel, then you will need to Purchase a Starter Ring Gear and Attach it to the Flywheel also. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers HM100 and Click Search. Then Select the File and Download it for Online Viewing of this Engine. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Good Luck
