-----Question-----
Hi, Every week i roll my mower over to the garage and charge the battery (it dies weekly) then after pushing the clutch several times in and out i start it up while still using the battery charger connected (for extra umph)
This past weekend however, when i tried to start it i got just a weak partial turn and then nothing. After a couple hours of messing with charging, trying to start, and then charging some more, i gave up. I went to roll it into the garage until the next day, and it was locked up as if in gear. I rolled it over to the garage initially, and hadn't changed it out of neutral, yet somehow it seems stuck in gear. I jacked up the back and spun a wheel and sure enough, i get reverse spinning between the two rear wheels which is correct...if in gear, but its in neutral. I geared around a bit, up and back, back and up, back to neutral, and the wheels are still responding as if in gear. I tried slightly forward, slightly back, and all gears in between..one by one (in the event the shift arm had maybe slipped a notch or two) and still nothing.
I'm stuck here.
in gear...
any help would be great, neighbors are starting to give me dirty looks...
Thanks
Rich

Answer
PEERLESS 206-545C

Above is your transaxle model.  I checked a few message boards and the results were not good.

In the past, I have had the shifting keys break on these units.  The shifting keys are cheap but you have to split the transaxle to install them.  Based on the messages boards this is what I would do.

Firts, make sure the belt is not sticking, maybe fell off al pulley and is binding the transaxle pulley.  Second, make absolutely sure the brake is not seized or binding; I have found sticks wedged in areas that caused the brake to bind.

If the belt and brake are not binding or seized, then you should clean the top of the trans with compressed air from an air compressor.  With the top of the trans clean, use an inspection mirror and a flashlight to inspect the top cover.  If you find any cracks or gears sticking out the the case then the trans is shot.

Finally, when checking the top of the trans case, make sure the shifter link screw is tight...I've seen these come loose preventing you from shifting the trans.
Let me know what you find.
