Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): BRAKE PADS, pin holes, lever assembly

Question
HOW TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS ON 1985 SEAR RIDING MOWER 12HP

Answer
What is the model number?  Most of those mowers used a couple of brake "pucks".  It is important to clean the pins and the housing for proper operation.  We use a electric wire brush or dremel to clean the pins.  For the pin holes we use a small drill bit wrapped with steel wool to clean the inside of the pin holes.

There should also be a metal plate on the pin side of the assembly.  This prevents cracking the puck when the brake is engaged.

To remove the assembly you will need to remove the adjusting nut(s) on the lever assembly and then the 2 screws holding the brake puck assembly.

That's about it.
Let me know if this helps.
