Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 92 Honda 300 fFurtrax, test gauge, storage time

Question
Tim, My fourtrax was running great, even though I kick started it instead of replacing the starter.  Then it wouldn't start.  I replaced the coil, solenoid, and overhauled the carb.  I now get a spark but it still won't start.  What do you suggest?

Answer
Did you replace the spark plug while you were replacing the other electrical parts?  If you are indeed getting good consistent spark with a good plug the next step that I would take is to perform a compression test.  A compression test gauge is inexpensive and can be a very valuable tool in diagnosing and repair. Your engine should produce about 110 psi.  Also make sure that your fuel is fresh, gasoline has a very short storage time before it starts to break down.
