Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Replace crank in 10 hp. Tecumseh engine - Tip needed?, gear puller, tecumseh engine

Question
I have an 8 year old Patriot shredder with a 10 hp Tecumseh engine. Previously, I had problems and replaced the outboard bearing. I was very proud of the engine which always started on the 1st pull and ran flawlessly. That was until the crankshaft broke off at the connection to the shredder rotor about 2 months ago. Could have replaced the engine for $350-, or purchased a new unit, but, since I am retired and always looking for a challenge to screw up; decided to rebuild it. Got the correct parts for about $120-on the net. For some reason I cannot get my newly acquired 8" gear puller to get the finned flywheel off the other end of the crankshaft. The end is tapered and has a key. I talked to one of the very few repair shops and they suggested using PB Blaster solvent in an aerosol can, which I did. After a myriad of spraying treatments, the flywheel is still stuck in place and I'm beginning to think a brake press may be needed. Is there something I am missing or am I just weak?

Answer
 Hello Bill:

Have you HIT the Pull to Jar the Flywheel? This is the Usual way to Remove the Flywheel. Tighten the Puller and Hit it. Then Tighten Again and Hit. The Flywheel will Jump Up if it is Really Tight. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
