Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ariens Snowblower 5520, ariens snowblower, float bowl

Bought the snowblower new last year maybe used it twice, went to use it this year and it doesn't start, friends at work said the carb is gummed up, however I can't get the cover off due to the knob that goes to the choke, how do I get this knob off?

Drain all the fuel from the fuel tank.  I believe you have a float bowl style carb on that model.  Look at the bottom of the carburetor.  If you see a round bowl the this is the float bowl.  Many of the float bowl have a spring loaded drain button.  Push the button the drain the float bowl.  

Refill with fresh fuel and see if you can get it to start.
