Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman snowblower wont start, craftsman snowblower, pawls

Question
The snowblower was working fine then all of a sudden it shut down.  Now the I can't pull the starter chord.  it appears to be stuck.

Answer
What you need to determine is whether it's the motor that's locked up, or the rewind.  First, remove the starter rewind unit/shroud. If you can turn the flywheel on the engine, then the engine is probably fine.  If the flywheel is locked up, you'll have to check the engine - which is more than we can discuss here.  If the starter is locked up, you'll have to dissassemble the starter to check the dawgs/pawls and the spring.
