Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): oil gas mixture, merry christmas and happy new year, gas mixture

Question
I have an old Homelite blower (08010F) which will not start.  A friend has told me that the old blowers will not start at all with a 50:1 gas oil ratio but they absolutely need a 40:1 ratio or will not run at all.  Is this correct?  I have already installed a new plug.  Thanks for any help.

Answer
 Hello Neal:

I have 3 of the Older Homelites, Mid 1970 to Mid 1980 Models and I use 32:1 Ratio. When they were Purchased the Instruction Sid the Mix was Supposed to be 40:1 Ratio. I Found this to be to Rich with Oil and had Oil coming Out of the Muffler and the Exhaust Port would Clog Up every 6 to 8 Weeks. Once I Lowered the Ratio all this Stopped and I have had Excellent Service ever since. If you are Using a 50:1 Ratio, then the Exhaust Port, Muffler or Muffler Screen May be Clogged and Preventing Proper Exhausting of the Engine. Make sure these are Clear. What is the Compression? Is the Plug Firing? If you Pour a Small Amount of Mix into the Carburetor Throat, Does it Start and Quit? Also Recheck the Model Numbers, Please. The Numbers you Sent are Not in my Manuals or Online and they Look like the Serial Numbers Off the Ones I have. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John

PS:  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year (:-))
