Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): red hot exhaust manifold, spark plug gap, craftsman snowblower

Question
Thanks John. Techumseh engine family is xtpx3 3582bf. The model number is 143.001103. Displacement is 358, if that matters.

The blower is a Craftman dual stage, model c950-52930-0, 11hp, 31 inch auger.

I checked the plug gap and it's within .001 of an inch. Some possibly relevant history is that I had the gearbox rebuilt as a result of a large rock and shear bolt failure causing the worm gear to shear. I'm wondering if there may have been abrupt stress on the crank shaft as a result, causing displacement or flywheel key damage (that sounds nasty).

It's snowing but I got me a shovel and a heartbeat. No worries, just hopes.

-----Question-----
I have a craftsman snowblower with Techusmsa (sp?) engine. It runs at full idle for 15 minutes then sputters and stalls. I've noticed that the exhaust manifold glows red hot during operation and I can see exploding fuel thru the vents when the engine sputters. Today I degummed my carburator. It's a side draft style with gravity fuel feed. I couldn't find an air filter. Tomorrow I'll reinstall and try again. Any idea if this is a serious problem? Could it be a mixture issue? If I close the choke just prior to stalling it only contributes to the problem.
-----Answer-----
 Hello Paul:

The Engine is a Tecumseh. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Blower, Please. With these I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL and Better Assist you. However, it could be the Valve Lash Out of Adjustment, a Valve Seat Burning Through, Improper Spark Plug Gap, a Clogged Exhaust Port or the Flywheel Key Damaged. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me Know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John

PS: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year (:-))

Answer
 Hello Paul:

From your Last E-Mail and this One I would Say the Key is Damaged. It can be Replace in about 1hr by an Experienced Mechanic and About 2 Hours by a Shade Tree Mechanic. The Only Special Tool Required is a Steering Wheel Puller. Remove the Blower Housing and Remove the Flywheel Nut. Lift the Starter Bell Off the Flywheel and Attach the Puller to the Flywheel Using the Bolt Holes in the Flywheel. Tighten the Puller and then Hit the Puller and Jar the Flywheel. Tighten and Hit Again if Required. The Flywheel will Jump Up a Small Amount and then the Flywheel can be Lifted Off the Crankshaft. Any Damage to a Flywheel Key can Cause the Problem you are Having. The Flywheel Key Times the Spark Plug Firing to the Piston Position. Be Sure to Place the New Key Into the Crankshaft Properly and then Reassemble. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then enter the Part Number. Then Download the File for Online Viewing of the Breakdown/IPL. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.
