-----Question-----
I replaced the head (probably didn't need to but it was inexpensive) so I did. It looks like the push rod bent do to the valves being out of adjustment over time, mfg recommends adjusting them every 250 hrs. Now I am just about to get ready to start it, however after adjusting my valves to specs with piston 1/4 from tdc. I notice it is very hard when i pull the pull cord and it was like this before too. It just seems like it shouldn't be difficult when i am pulling the starting rope. Any suggestions?

I pulled valve cover off and found 1 push rod broken and 1
bent. Do you think I can just replace push rods? (as a quick fix). What else do I need to do?
Greatly appreciated!

 Hello Mark:

You Really need to Remove the Valves and Inspect the Valve Guides and Valve Stems for Scouring and Damage. Something Caused the Valves to Stick. That is the Reason for the Broken and Bent Push Tubes. Usually Carbon has Gotten Between the Valve Stem and the Valve Guide and is Causing the Valves to Stick and Bind which in Turn Bends or Breaks the Push Tubes. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Addy http://shop.briggsandstratton.com/BShopProductListingPage.asp?rsvp=0&PARENTID=0& and Enter the Model Numbers 205432 and the Type Numbers 0141 and Click Search. Now Scroll to the Second Listing and Click the View PDF and Click. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Hello Mark:

To Locate the Cause of the Broken and Bent Valve; I'm Afraid you Really Should Check the Rocker Assemblies For Binding. The Rocker Pivot and Rocker Arm Mating Surfaces Should Be Smooth, Not Rough or Scarred. If the Rocker Assemblies are Good then, Remove the Head. Also, the Valves Need to be Removed from the Head and Be Inspected. The Valve Guide should Be Inspected Also.  Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance.  Hello Mark:

Close the Valve lash Setting for the Intake Valve. The Internal Compression Release Isn't being Activated because the Valve Lash is to Wide. What Setting did you Use for the Valve Lash? Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.

Answer
 Hello Mark:

Yes. .004in and then .003in should be the Next Steps. Turn the Engine by Hand and Watch the Valves. The Intake Should Open a Small Amount and then Close Just Before TDC. This is the Compression Release Working. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.
