Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton engine, coleman powermate generator, briggs stratton engine

Question
I have a Coleman Powermate generator driven by a 8 HP Briggs & Stratton engine.  Model # 190412, Type 3098-01, Code 8910160.
The engine runs at high rpm's at any load.
Can I modify engine by adding an idle control to control the speed?

Answer
 Hello Grady:

From the Breakdown/IPL I see this is Engine has the Screw Type Throttle Control. The Reason for this Design and Application is to Set the RPM's at the Lowest Allowed for the Generator to Produce Constant Current for the Job Application. If you Set the Throttle at the Lowest Level Required, it Should Rev Up when a Load is Applied. You can View the Engine at this Addy http://shop.briggsandstratton.com/BShopProductListingPage.asp?rsvp=0&PARENTID=0&... and Enter the Model Numbers 190412 and the Type Numbers 3098. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
