Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 2 stroke lawn mower surges up and down., victa, fuel flow

Question
i have an old Victa 160 2 stroke mower.it starts really easy and idles really well. But when u throttle up the revs to mow long grass, the revs drop right down to almost stall then it revs right back up again.it keeps going up and down like this by itself non stop until you move the throttle down to a much slower idle.could you please tell me what could be causing this.Thank you.

Answer
 Hello Barry:

Check the Fuel Flow to the Inlet of the Carburetor. Remove and Disassemble the Carburetor. Soak it Overnight in Carburetor Cleaning Solution(I use Gunk) and then Blow out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Kit. From your Description it Sounds like the Carburetor Jet is Restricted. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck
