Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawnmower will only jump start, automatic compression release, ball bearings

Question
Hi john, When I first e-mailed I failed to tell you that the engine will turn over with the key, but will not start.Would that rule out the solenoid? Also I put a new spark plug in and battery is good. This engine is only 3 years old but tractor that its in is about 30 years old.I also bypassed the clutch/brake switch.Im wondering if it could be a condensor problem? maybe the coil breaking down or point gaps? Just dont know where to start next. Thankyou for your time and any more advise you can give me. Thankyou again Bill

 Hello Bill:

Check the Seat Safety Switch. Then the Solenoid. You can Try these Addys http://www.kohlerengines.com/service/manuals/index.jsp and Select FAQ in the Column on the Left. Then Select Where are the Engine Identification Numbers Located/ how do I Identify my Engine. For the Model Numbers of the Mower the Addy is http://www.mtdproducts.com/corporate/index.jsp and Select the Cub Cadet Logo. Then Select Customer Service in Column on Left. Then Enter the Question "Model Number Locations". Then Select the Tab for Ask a Question. Send them the Question as to where the Model Numbers are Located on your Mower. The Model Numbers Off of the Mower and the Engine Will be Most Helpful. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck
