Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troybilt TB475SS Trimmer, piston rings, troy bilt

Question
Hello, I am having similar problems other people are having regarding trimmer collapsing or bogging down. My friend thinks its losing compression, so we removed the piston rings. I read some threads and it looks like the carb is the suspect of the problem. I learned this after I removed the rings. Should I just re-install the rings and make a gasket and buy a carb. The problem seems to happen about 15 mins into using it. All the time, thats why my friend thinks when it gets hot the expansion of the piston wall is causing it to lose compression.  Hope you can help!

Answer
 Hello Phil:

If the Trimmer is Running for 15 Min and Losing Power; it Could be : 1- The Ignition Module/Coil Breaking Down. 2- The Fuel Tank Not Venting the Tank and Creating a Vacuum in the Tank. 3- The Fuel Filter needs Replaced. 4- The Rings are Bad and Not Expanding Properly. If you have Removed the Rings, then Deglaze the Cylinder and then Replace the Piston and Rings Into the Jug/Cylinder. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Trimmer at this Addy http://www.buymtdonline.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/topcategory_10101_15601_-1 and Select Launch Illustrated Search Engine. Then Select the OEM(Troy-Bilt) and Enter the Model Numbers TB475SS. Then Double Click on your Model in the Search Results Area. This will Open a New Window for you to View the Breakdown/IPL Online. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck
