Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Leaking Carburetor for Tecumseh Snow Thrower, wood vise, several different ways

Question
Helli, John

The carburetor (model HSSK50) for a 5 hp Tecumseh snow thrower (model E600B) is leaking at the 90 degree fitting and my husband would like to know what type of fitting it is and how to remove it.  Since it is not threaded into the carb and swivels, he thinks it's a slip joint fitting.

Also, are there any diagrams of this carburetor on the internet that we can visit to see a breakdown of the carburetor?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Mary

Answer
 Hello Mary:

The Fitting is a Wedged Fit. Remove the Carburetor from the Engine. Place the Carburetor in a Wood Vise (or Use Wood to Protect the Carburetor with the Fitting Facing Up. Twist and Pull the Fitting Up a Small Amount. Now Add JB Weld Around the Base of the Fitting. You can Purchase the JB Weld at Any Automotive Parts Supply Store. After Applying the JB, Lightly Tap the Fitting Back Into the Carburetor. Allow to Dry for 48hrs. The Package Says 24 but 48 is Better. If this Procedure Doesn't Solve the Problem, the Carburetor needs to be Replaced. **DO NOT PING THE CARBURETOR, PLEASE** Most Times the Carburetor Just Pops Out Pieces and Doesn't Tighten the Fitting. I have Tried Several Different Ways to Tighten this Fitting and have had No Success; if the JB Weld Did Not Hold. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Click on the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Engine Model Numbers (should be a 143.xxxxx or LAV xxx). and Click Go. Then Click on your Model Engine and this will Download a File for you to View Online. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck
