Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Bolens 2028, riding lawnmower, transaxle

Question
Hello John,    This past spring picked up a used Bolens 2028 riding lawnmower. When I checked everything over I found the transmission to be dry. Offhand I can`t remember what lube I used to fill it up with, but I do know it was the proper one. And from what I found out is it has a Peerless 730 or 730A transmission. My question is between the upper and lower halves of the transmission is there a gasket? Because its leaking fluid. Or am I over filling it? I can`t tell if it`s leaking while it`s running or not, but after I shut it down it will accumulate a puddle underneath.

Answer
 Hello Mike:

The Mating Surfaces of the Transaxle are a Machined Fit. Usually the Housing Bolts Loosen from Vibration and Cause this kind of Leak. Check the Housing Bolts. Use SAE30 or 40 Engine Oil to Refill the Transaxle. Even Slightly Overfilled, it should Not Leak. Hope this helps. I am here if you require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
