Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): New Lawn Tractor -Initial Start up Problem, craftsman lawn tractor, safety switches

Question
Thanks for the advice.  I waited for dark and just pulled the plug wires and cranked--both wires are sparking. As I'm not an engine repair person I will look up the location of the carburetor and check that in the morning. I'm assuming I could follow the gas line, but it looks as if I will have to remove a plastic engine cover. I will wait for daylight and hopefully get back to you with success. At least the safety switches appear to be operational.  Thanks again.

-----Question-----
Hello,
I just purchased a brand new Craftsman lawn tractor (model 917.276884) and it will not start.  The engine turns over but will not "catch".  I checked for obvious things such as both spark plugs wires were engaged as well as all wires in the harnesses were plugged in.  The engine has gas and oil. I had the throttle lever on high and the choke out per instructions for a cold start.  The engine is a 26hp Kohler Pro twin cylinder and it's brand new-so I don't know what to do from here.  Am I missing a step somewhere?  If it's any help-the tractor was a floor model. I don't know if the floor models get disabled somehow for safety reasons and the sales people are clueless about it.  Thanks for any help in advance.

 Hello Cris:

Check the Coil Wire at the Plug for Fire. If No Fire, Then Jumper the Seat Safety and the Blade Safety. Sears should Send Someone Out to Assist you if These Safety Switches are Good. If the Coil is Firing at the Plug, Then the Carburetor Float May be Stuck and Not Allowing Gas Into the Carburetor. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

Answer
 Hello Cris:

You can View a Breakdown of the Engine at this Addy http://www.kohlerengines.com/service/manuals/index.jsp and Enter the Model Number CV730 (this is the Model Number of the Engine on your Mower) in the Search Block. Then On the Next Page on the Right Select Find Manuals. On the Next Page Scroll Down to your Model Number and Select the Service PDF Manual. To View a Breakdown of the Mower, go to this Addy http://www3.sears.com/ and Click the Lawn Equipment Box. Then Enter the Model Numbers 917.276884 and Follow the Instructions to get to the View Diagram/View Parts List Page. Since you have Fire to the Plugs and this is a New Engine, then the Most Likely Cause is the Float is Stuck in the Carburetor. Check the Bottom of the Carburetor for a Fuel Control Solenoid. If there is a Solenoid, it May be Stuck and Also Prevent Gas from Entering the Carburetor Bowl. Thanks for the E-mail Update. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
