Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): recently asked about a 14.5 briggs engine that would not start, briggs and stratton, ohv engines

Question
John, I wrote to you earlier in the day about a 14.5 engine that had way to much compression. when i turned it over by hand it came to a point that i could barely turn it over. You instructed me to check the oil. I did and its at the proper level. the model number is 287707. type 0220 01. code 9411224a . these are the numbers of the briggs and stratton engine that you requested I send. thank you very much for your advice.

Answer
 Hello Mike:

Check the Compression of Both Cylinders. They should be Close to the Same in the Amount of Compression. The Valve Lash May Require Adjusting. The Intake Valves are Set at .005 - .007in and the Exhaust is .008 - .010in. The Valves Working Out of Adjustment has beeb a Common Problem with the OHV Engines. You can View a Breakdown of this Engine at this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Click the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Dont have Part Numbers. Then Select the File # 28. Then Select Folder # 287700. This will Download a Breakdow/IPL of this Engine. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
