Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): fuel line assembly, poulan weedeater, fuel line

Question
Poulan/weedeater xt 90 trimmer. Fuel line deteriorated. Have new fuel line but question is how to prevent leakage from hole in underside of fuel tank where line runs from carb into tank ending in fuel filter. Is there some sort of sealant/gasket that deteriorated also? (Can't find any remains).
Is the fuel filter simply attached to the end of the fuel line, i.e. freestanding, in order to suck gas no matter engine/tank position?

 Send me the Complete Model Numbers Off the Trimmer, Please. With these Number I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL of the Trimmer and Better Assist you. Some of these have a Grommet that Surrond the Fuel Line. On Others the Fuel Line Fits Tight through the Hole into the Tank. The Filter Lies in the Tank and Flops Around as the Trimmer is Moved.
