Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Sears Leaf Blower will start but wont run, spark arrestor, exhaust port

Question
John, I did manage to separate the muffler and all the holes in the spark arrestor screen were open...by the way...not knowing what a spark arrestor was and what it looked like...the (3) holes I was referring to in the previous e-mail...were actually part of it.  So I moved on to work on the carb.  However, when I called Sears to order the "kit" to rebuild it, they quoted the cost at $35.00.  At that price, it's not worth it.  I can buy a new blower for around $75.00.  But thank you very much for your help.

Thank you for your quick response.  I now have the muffler off but the top half "appears" to be crimped to the bottom half so I am soaking it in gasoline.  Will this remove the carbon from the spark arrestor...or...must I separate the (2) halves of the muffler to access and clean it. If so...what solution should I use to clean it.  By the way...the small holes on the inside of the muffler (3 each on both sides) appear to open and free of blockage.  Thank you.

Craftsman Blower 32cc 2 cycle, model #358.797920. This blower has always been easy to start and has been maintenance free.  However, while using it last week, the motor stopped running (acted like it was out of gas).  I have cleaned the  spark plug, air filter and adjusted the "idle and mix" per the manual.  It is difficult to start and will only start and run (for short periods) while at full and/or half choke.  When I push the choke lever to "run" it dies.  The motor does react to the throttle (meaning, I don't believe gas flow is part of the problem but maybe you do).  Thank you for your insight into this problem.  Chuck.

 Hello Chuck:

Remove the Muffler and Check for Blockage in the Exhaust Port. Check the Muffler and Spark Arrestor Screen. The Spark Arrestor Screen is in the Muffler. Over Time Carbon Builds Up in the Exhaust Port and Muffler and Restricts the Exhaust. This means the Vaccum of the Engine is Restricted and Causes the Carburator Problem you are having. If these are Not Blocked, then Clean and Rebuild the Carburator. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Hello Chuck:

With the Muffler Off Try Running the Engine. Is there a Difference? Other than it being Loud. :-) If the Engine Runs the Same with the Muffler Off then the Carburator needs to be Cleaned and Rebuilt. If the Muffler you have will not Seperate to Clean the Spark Arestor Screen, then Replace the Muffler. There is a Mopar makes a Combustion Chamber Spray that Cleans Carbon Fairly Well. The Spray Cleaner Part Number is Mopar 04318001. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
