Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): maint., hydrostatic drive, pivot points

Question
I have a older Craftsman rider that i bought used.Despite its previous neglect,it cuts great, starts easy, uses no oil.I don't have a manual with it,how do i lube it and what needs to be lubed?

Answer
Hi Sonny,

Change the engine oil using 30w in the summer or 10w-40 in the winter.  Grease any fittings and oil any pivot points you can access.  A gear box or differential would take gear oil.  If it has a hydrostatic drive, either a hydraulic fluid or other oil is used depending on the type of unit.

Best,
Michael
