Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 10 hp carb problem?, gas mixture, gas flows

Question
I have and 2003 Troybilt generator with a B&S 10 hp OHV. Only used one season (looks brand new). When I recently tried to start it, it ran for about 15 seconds then died. When it shut down gas poured out of the air filter. I started it again and it ran a little longer this time it didn't shut down completely it sputtered (gas coming from air filter again) then picked up speed and sputtered again....this whole time white smoke was POURING from the exhaust. Help!

Answer
Sounds like the carburetor inlet needle is not sealing.  Check the oil to see if it smells like gas or is overfilled.

Typically when the inlet needle does not seal gas flows into the engine block, thinning the oil and causing the engine to burn the oil/gas mixture.

Did you use fuel stabilizer in your fuel?
