Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): changing engines, hp model, intek

I have a LTX 1842 TROY BUILT mower.The engine has gone belly up.Can I put a twin 20hp intek in the mower?The 18 in it is a 18hp intek single right now.

Most likely you can.  However, you will need some info to be sure.

You need to take the 18 HP model, type and code numbers to your nearest Briggs dealer.  They have a book, engines sales manual, that will provide the output cranshaft information and footprint dimensions.

Compare the data to see if the 20 will work.

You can probably find the info onine, but we rarely sell engines these days but when I do I use the book.
