Question -
I am at the end.

I have a Simplicity Legacy with a Kohler 25HP.

Started to backfire.  I looked and the welds on the muffler and they were shot.  I replaced.  Still getting backfire.

Have great gas flow into the carb.  Getting great spark using a screwdriver and a ground as well as grounding the spark plug.

Opened the valve covers and ran it and both valves look to be running properly.

When I run it one cylinder is to hot to touch and the other I can grab, not hot. Seems that everything is in order except that gas insn't getting to that cylinder so there is not burn and the backfire is the extra gas in the carb not being burned.  Also pulling the plug after running it the plug is not loaded with un burned gas?

runs great with one cylinder if I just unplug the spark plug cable on the other cylinder.  Just a few minutes in the garage not in the yard.

Need help cannot figure out what is wrong.

Thanks
Todd

 Hello Todd:

Check for a Blown Headgasket. There isnt enough Compression for the Dead Cylinder to Burn the Gas and when the Unburnt Gas Builds Up the Hot Exhaust Gasses from the Good Cylinder Cause the Unburnt Gas from the Dead Cylinder to Ignite. It Could also be a Burnt Valve. Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate a Breakdown of the Engine and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.
