Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Weedwacker-New Ignition Module- No Spark, craftsman weedwacker, air gap

Question
Craftsman Weedwacker 17"/25cc Gas Line Trimmer, Model #358795543. Wouldn't start this spring, checked for spark & no spark. When I looked the unit up on Sears parts on-line, I interpreted the parts schematic to be that it was a solid state unit without points, etc. It appeared that the Ignition Module & the magnets (2) on the flywheel were the complete ignition system. I purchased & installed a new ignition module. I measured the gap between the flywheel magnets & the module at .012" on the old setup & duplicated it on the new. Then using an in-line spark test light between the plug wire & the spark plug, the spark test still results in no spark. I disconnected the on/off switch from the module also in case a failure of it was causing the module to be grounded. Still no spark. I even took the spark tester to my lawn mower to make sure that it worked & it did. Thanks in advance for your help.  Tom

Answer
 Hello Tom:

You Old Coil May have Vibrated in. The Correct Air Gap for the Coil and Flywheel is .020in. Dont Think that the New Coil/Ignition Module is Good because it is New. They can be Bad even Out of the Box. Reset the Coil/Ignition Module to .020 and Check the Fire. If No Fire, Have the New Coil/Ignition Module Tested. If the Magnets are Good and the Coil/Ignition Module is Good and Mounted Properly, then there is No Reason for the Plug Not to Fire. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck
