Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): old sears generator, spark plug gap, fly wheel

i have old sears generator i found in my grandpas basement .i am having ignition problems. i have fire out of the plug wire but it wont come out the plug.i cleaned the fly wheel and points and did not help. should i change points or can i convert to electronic ignition?

You can convert it to electronic ignition...I would recommend this.  You can purchase electronic ignition kits from most small engine dealers and many auto parts stores.  

What spark plug is in the engine?  
What is the spark plug gap?
What is the model number of the generator?
