Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman riding mower quits repeatedly, craftsman riding mower, carburator

Question
I have a 6 yr old Craftsman riding mower with the 19HP 2 cylinder engine in it. As I'm mowing the engine will just quit . . . as if it were out of gas. If I wait 30 seconds or so it will generally start right back up and continue on. Sometimes this only happens once or twice during a 1 hour mowing job, however last night it happened at least 8 times. Every time it started back up after a wait of a few seconds. It doesn't seem like an electrical problem . . . seems more like a fuel problem. I did replace the in-line fuel filter and the air filter last week but it doesn't seem to have had any effect on the problem. What do you suggest?

Answer
 Hello RT:

From your Description it Sounds like there May be Grit Inside the Carburator and Is Getting Drawn into the Carburator Jet. When the Engine Quits, this Grit Settles and Depending on Where it Settles will Determine how long before it is Drawn Back Into the Jet. This will require Soaking the Carburator Overnight in Cleaning Solution(carburator cleaner) and then Blowing Out All the Passages with Compressed Air. Install a Rebuild Kit. It May Also be the Ignition Module Ground or the Module Itself going Bad. I have seen some do as you Described and a New Module Corrected the Problem. However this should be the Last Item you Replace. It can Also be a Relay on Some Model Riders. Is the Fuel Tank Venting Properly? Perform these Checks if you can and let me know the Results, Please. Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Mower and the Make, Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can Locate a Breakdown of the Mower and Engine and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am here to Help if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck
