Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Straton Engine, briggs straton engine, wheel horse

This engine on a wheel horse work horse tractor. Starts OK runs fine full throdle until mower deck is engauged. It pulles the engine to about 1/2 RPMS. Carb Cleaned didn't help, mower deck seams east yo turn.

Hi Ernie,

I would make sure that there is nothing binding in the deck and that it is not placing an abnormal load on the engine.  Also check the pto clutch and pulley, for binding.  If the deck works freely, then I would suspect that the engine is getting worn and in need of rebuilding.  Does the tractor have full power on it's own, such as when clinbing up a steep hill or pulling a load?
