Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton Engine, briggs stratton engine, briggs and stratton

Question
John,

I have a  Murray lawnmower with B&S engine model no. 90782, type 3063 01, code 88030924.

Last weekend When I was almost half done with mowing my lawn, the engine started acting up. It started going fast and slow by itself but as soon as I started mowing, it stopped. The next morning I started it again after cleaning up the outside of carburator and governor linkage etc. But the same thing happended again. Engine speed yo-yoing up and down till it stopped. The engine is old but well maintained. What parts if any shall I replace? or clean? What shall I do so it will run at constant high speed?

Thanks for advice.

Answer
 Hello Jay:

From your Description I suggest you Check the Gas Tank Cap and Ensure it is Venting the Tank Properly. If the Cap is Good, then Clean and Rebuild the Carburator. Soak the Carburator Overnight in Cleaning Solution(carburator cleaner) and then Blow Out All the Passages with Compressed Air. You can View a Breakdown of this Engine at this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Click the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Click Dont have Part Numbers. Then Scroll Down to the File #9 and Click on it. Then Scroll Down to the 90700-90799 Folder and Click on it. This will Download a Breakdown of thie Engine. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck
