Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): overhauling a crafstman lawnmower, piston rings, crafstman

Question
hey john my name is cory arnold and my grandfather has a craftsman lawnmwer and he is wonder how do you replace the piston rings and another thing when you start the motor it has oil and gas in it and everything but when you start it up it smokes out of the muffler how do we fix that

Answer
 Hello Cory:

Is the Engine Overfilled with Oil? IF No, then Check the Crankcase Vent. If the Vent isnt working Properly, then Pressure Builds in the Crankcase and will Force Oil from the Crankcase into the Carburator or by the Rings on Intake Stroke and Cause the Smoke. Send me the Make, Model, Type, and Code Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can Locate a Breakdown of the Engine and Better Assist you. Some Models will Blow a Headgasket between the Cylinder and the Valves and Smoke Also. Also, when you Look at the Breakdown of the Engine you can get an Idea of what will be Involved in the Rebuilding of this Engine. I Suggest a Short Block if a Rebuild is required. The Cost of a Short Block is Cheaper Most Times than a Rebuild. When the Parts and Machine Shop Cost are taken into Account, a Short Block is Better. Most Times You will have a Warranty with the Short Block also. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
