Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda GC160, honda gc160, air mixture

Question
I have a Honda GC160 OHC motor on my 2.2KVA generator. I had not started it for 2 months. When I started it it was running very unstably.

I have replaced the spark plug and engine oil. I pulled off the carb and cleaned it out because I thought the gasoline in it may have become too old.

I have drained all the gas and relaced it with fresh and it is still running smoothly.

It seems that if i apply the choke a little when it's runing that it runs smoother even when it's warmed up. I have not adjusted the mixure on the carb at all.

The governor makes it cycle when it's running so that it's not running smoothly but rather revving higher and lower a bit. This gets worse if I put load on it. I have not adjusted anything on the governor either.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer
 Hello Clayton:

Turn the High RPM Air Mixture Screw Counter Clockwise 1/4 Turn. If this Helps the Engine Running without Any Choke then This Adjustment will Correct the Problem for a Short Time. The Carburator needs to be Cleaned and Rebuilt. The Gas Forms a Varnish and this Varnish Builds Up and Restricts the Gas Flow to the Jet. As the Flow is Restricted it causes the Problem you Described. I suggest the Carburator be Soaked Overnight and then Blow All the Passages Out with Compressed Air. Hope this Helps. I am here if you need moer Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck
