Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Blade drive belt replacement, drive belts, tall grass

Question
Craftsman 46" Model 917.258671 - when I get into tall grass I hear belt slipping and the blades quite cutting. Question: How do I adjust or replace the blade drive belts on this model and should I replace all belts at the same time. I do have access on line to parts breakdown through Sears web site

Answer
 Hello Richard:

The Breakdown at the Sears Site is the Only Belt Route Picture I have Located. The 2 Springs (sears Diagram #40) are the Tensioners for the Blade Drive Belt and the Blade Deck Belt. If the Springs are Weak, Broken or Just Jumped Off, then the Belts Will Slip. I Suggest Both Belts be Replaced. You have the Same amount of Wear on Each Belt and If One has Slipped, it wont be Long before the Other Belt has to be Replaced too. Remove the Deck from Under the Mower. Once the Deck is Out in the Open you should be Able to see the Routing of the Belts. You May have to Remove an Idler or Belt Guard to Change the Belts. I am Here if you Require more Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Yhanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
