Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Oil in air filter Honda GX25 on Mantis tiller, honda gx25, mantis tiller

Question
Ok John,

Here's the numbers I can find on the Engine.

Honda GX25, T3 **, GCART-1009941, and on the emissions sticker it has EF:  5HNXS. 0254AK.  Hopefully one of these numbers will help identifiy the engine.

Thank you for your help.

Hi John,

I forgot to mention the 4 cycle part.  The engine is a Honda GX25 1.1HP 4 cycle engine.  So regular gas is in the gas tank and the oil is in the oil tank.

I ran the tiller last night again for over an hour.  I started it today and no smoke - so this oil leak problem is intermittent.

A specification webpage can be seen here:
http://www.honda-engines.com/engines/gx25.htm

So do you have any suggestions regarding my oil in the air filter problem?

Thank you for answering my question,

Brian

Question -
Hi John,

I have a Mantis tiller with a Honda GX25 engine.  It's still basically new.  I am having a oil smoke problem with the engine.  Sometimes when I start the engine, the engine will smoke.  I found that the air filter is being soaked with oil.  Sometimes there is enough oil where some will leak out the side of the air filter housing.  At that point I can squeeze the oil out of the filter.  Once the oil burns off the filter, the engine runs fine..  It doesn't seem to happen every time I use the tiller.  In fact I ran it for over an hour yesterday, and today it starts fine with no oil smoke.

What's causing the air filter to become soaked in oil every now and then?  The engine is apparently leaking oil when the engine is not running.  The oil level appears to be fine.  Other than that one little problem the engine starts easily and runs fine.  I hope the fix is a simple adjustment.

Thank you,
Brian

 Hello Brian:

I Require the Type Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. On Most 2 cycle Engines When the Oil is Getting into the Filter and Leaking from the Muffler, it is Because of Using too Much Oil in the Gas. I Use a 32:1 Ratio on All my 2-cycle Engines Unless they Specify a Heaver Oil Ratio. On the Heaver Specified Oil Ratios, If I Start Getting Oil in the Filter, I Decrease the Oil Ratio Slightly until I No Longer have the Oil Problem. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John

 Hello Brian:

ok Sorry. I have a Mantis and it has the Honda 2 Cycle Engine. Anyway, Check the Crankcase Vent. Send me the Engine Type Letters Off of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can Locate a Breakdown and Better Assist you. Thanks.

 Respectfully

 John

Answer
 Hello Brian:

I cant Locate a Breakdown in my Manuals or Online. I have Sent an Email to Mantis and they will Respond within 2 Days. Recheck the Model Numbers, Please. If you sent me the Corrent Numbers then Dont Respond. If they are Wroong then send me the Corect ones. This Happens Once in a while. I am finding I May have Manuals in 1 Whole Room(just over 3000), but Im still Missing a Few.
If you havent Heard from me by Wednesday Sept 13, 2006, Email me again, Please. I Research so many Engines and Mowers for People that I cant keep track of them all. Thanks.

 Respectfully

 John
