Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): will not start, safety switches, bad hope

murray 309000x8b 12hp rider mower,sat for 4 months 1year old it turns over but doesnt start ,not getting any spark at wire and plug,i cleaned the mageneto and coil it was a little rusty still nothing what else can it be that s

 Hello Dan:

 From your Description I Suggest Checking the Seat Safety Switch. Go to this Addy http://www.partstree.net/parts.asp and Click on Parts Look Up. On the Next Screen Choose the OEM and Enter the Model Number 309000X8B. Then Double Click on the Model in the Search Results Area. From here you can View the Mower in Breakdown Form. If the Seat Safety is Good, then Disconnect the Coil/Armature Shutoff Wire and Test for Spark. If there is Spark at the Plug, then Check the Other Safety Switches and the Coil/Armature Shutoff wire for Burnt/Bare Places that may be Grounding the Coil/Armature.
