Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs 3.5 motor, briggs and stratton, engine speed

Question
murry 20' mower with a 3.5 briggs and stratton motor. I would like to get more rpms out of this engine. There is some control of the carb, but it is not where I would like it and would like to know if I can adjust this. I had a 3.5 tecumshah and I could get more rpms than the briggs. thank you

Answer
 Hello Jeff:

The Governor Control Spring Needs to be Shortened. When Doing this **DON SKIP** any Rings. Cut Of the Clip End Of the Governor Spring and then take the next ring and Carefully Bend the Ring into a New Clip Ring. When you Reach the Speed you want, you are good to Go. One Word of CAUTION. DO NOT INCREASE THE ENGINE SPEED OVER 3200 RPM'S. THE ENGINE WILL BURN OUT ABOVE THIS RPM. I use 2800 RPM's as MAximum on all My Mower Engines. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
