Question -
I have a Honda HR 216 LAWNMOWER and the pullcord starter won't retract. the cord just pulls out without any tension. How can the cord be retentioned to start the machine.

Answer -
 Hello V:

If the Recoil will Not Retract the Rope into the Housing, then the Recoil Spring is Broken. Send me the Model and Type Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can Locate a Breakdown that will Assist you in making this Repair. Thanks.

Answer
 Hello V:

You May find a Breakdown for this Engine at this Addy http://www.honda-engines-eu.com/en/service/spareparts/heepartscatalogue/index.js. You will need the Engine Type also. Remove the Starter Recoil Housing. Remove the Plastic Recoil Pulley from the Housing. Replace the Spring and Put the Pulley back Into the Recoil Housing. Turn the Pulley towards the Hole in the Recoil Housing until the Spring is Tight. Reverse the Pulley 1 to 2 Turns and Line up the Hole in the Pulley with the Hole in the Housing. Push the New Rope through the Hole in the Pulley and when the Rope Exits the Pulley, Thread it through the Hole in the Housing. Pull the Knot in the End of the Rope Tight against the Pulley. Tie a Slip Knot in the Rope to Hold the Rope and Pulley while the Handle is Attached to the Rope. Release the Slip Knot and the Rope should Retract into the Housing. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck
